Why choose Catholic French Immersion?

French Immersion programming opens many doors to many career opportunities as students develop language skills in Canada’s two official languages.

Learning a second language at an early age helps develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving and communication skills. French Immersion offers families who do not speak French programming to build bilingualism in their children.

We strive to have our students see and understand themselves as beloved children of God, who have many gifts to share with the world, including a second language.

How does French Immersion work?

French immersion integrates language instruction and content-area instruction — students learn in French all day long instead of learning French as a separate timetabled subject.

French immersion is a highly successful approach to second-language learning — an effective way for children to become functionally fluent in a second language while achieving all of the objectives of the regular school program, following the Ontario Curriculum.

What do families need to know when considering French Immersion?

French Immersion is designed for families who are not French speaking. All school communication to families is in English.

Families are partners in the French Immersion experience, and there are many ways parents can be involved in their child’s French learning journey.

Our French Immersion Kindergarten program implements a gentle approach to learning French.  Through watching and listening, students begin to recognize words and phrases, gradually using French as they are encouraged to try the new language.

In high school, French Immersion students take 10 credits in French (French and Religion in Grades 9-12, Geography in Grade 9 and History in Grade 10), and receive a special certificate of recognition upon graduation.
